MIAMI, FL – A tragic incident unfolded in a Miami apartment this past Saturday, as two former college hockey players were fatally shot by a man who subsequently took his own life.
The victims, identified as 25-year-old Meghan Moore and 23-year-old Sidney Capolino, were reportedly shot by 40-year-old Luis Napoles. According to Miami-Dade Police, officers arrived at the scene around 9 p.m. to find Moore wounded outside the apartment. As they attempted to provide aid, additional shots were heard from within the residence.
Upon entering the apartment, officers discovered the bodies of Napoles, Moore, and Capolino. The motive behind the tragic incident remains unclear, as authorities continue their investigation.
Moore and Capolino, both former athletes at New England College, shared the apartment with Napoles at the Windsor Ludlam Trail Apartments. Friends of Moore revealed to local media that her relationship with Napoles was fraught with difficulties.
Both women had recently graduated from New England College, with Moore earning her degree in criminal justice in 2021 and Capolino finishing her studies in 2022. Moore was a forward on the college’s NCAA Division III ice hockey team for three years, while Capolino played defense for four seasons.
Capolino had recently received her registered nurse certification in Florida. Moore’s mother, Marybeth, spoke of her daughter’s love for hockey and the impact she had on those around her. “We just couldn’t wait to get to her games. She was just electrifying and amazing,” she said.
Public records indicate that Napoles had been evicted from a previous apartment in Coral Gables in 2023 due to non-payment of rent. He claimed he was unable to meet his financial obligations after losing his job at a restaurant.
