AUSTELL, GA – A 16-year-old girl was shot and killed, allegedly by 57-year-old Alejandro Mario Bencomo Aguilar in his Austell home, as reported by the Cobb County Police Department. Police officers arrived at the property on Fringe Flower Drive on Friday morning, responding to a shooting report. When they got to the scene, they found Aguilar wounded, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot.
As law enforcement approached Aguilar, he attempted to further harm himself with a knife. Upon securing his safety, officers discovered the teenage girl in an upstairs bedroom, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Despite immediate medical aid, the teenager was tragically declared dead at the scene.
Aguilar was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he received surgery for his injuries. With the preliminary investigation suggesting that Aguilar shot the minor before shooting himself, authorities moved to press charges against him. Aguilar is now facing charges of murder, aggravated assault, as well as cruelty to children in the first degree.
The official investigation is ongoing, and Cobb County Police are urging anyone who has additional information about the case to get in contact with the Major Crimes Unit.
