RICHMOND, VA – A man was found dead from a gunshot wound on Sussex Street early Tuesday morning, marking a tragic incident in the quiet neighborhood. Police responded to a call around 9 a.m. regarding a person down in the 1900 block.
Upon arrival, officers discovered the body of a man who was later identified by family members as 47-year-old Chris Barlow. Neighbors, still shaken by the event, reported hearing gunshots around 7:30 a.m.
One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, recounted the morning’s events, noting the shots were heard just as people were preparing for their day. “We heard shots around 7:30,” the neighbor said. “It was just as we were getting ready to leave for work.”
The neighbor’s father, who had stepped out to start his truck, unknowingly passed by the scene. “He didn’t even look over,” the resident added, reflecting on how easily the tragedy could have been discovered earlier.
Barlow was described by those who knew him as a beloved figure in the community. Family members expressed their grief, highlighting his popularity and the positive impact he had on those around him.
Police have yet to release further details regarding potential suspects or motives, urging anyone with information to come forward. The investigation remains active, with authorities canvassing the area for leads.
