Man Fatally Stabbed During Overnight Shift at Family Business

Police first responded to a shooting call, then found a 25-year-old man with multiple stab wounds.

SAN ANTONIO, TX — A 25-year-old man working overnight at a family-owned business in northwest San Antonio was fatally stabbed early Friday after an argument inside the store, police said.

The killing at Classic Mart & 420 Shop on Medical Drive drew police to a strip mall near Fairhaven Street just after 1 a.m. June 12. Investigators said the first call reported a shooting in progress, but officers later found no verified shooting and instead opened a fatal stabbing investigation.

Officers were dispatched to the business at 4069 Medical Drive at 1:04 a.m., according to preliminary information from the San Antonio Police Department. Police said witnesses reported that a suspect walked into the store, argued with the worker and then pulled out a knife. The man was stabbed several times before the suspect left the area. Paramedics tried to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the early report of a shooting was “unconfirmed” after officers arrived and reviewed what had happened.

The store owner identified the worker as Sanad A. Faisal Al Resheq, his cousin. Other reports identified him as Sanad Ahmad Faisal Al Resheq. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office had not yet issued the final public identification and ruling on cause and manner of death. No other injuries were reported. The business sits in a small shopping center in the Medical Center area that includes restaurants, a convenience store and a smoke shop. Police said some family members saw the attack unfold through surveillance cameras inside the business.

Hours after the stabbing, officers surrounded an apartment at the Charles Andrews Apartments across the street from the store. Police said a 17-year-old boy came out and followed commands after officers surrounded the unit. He was detained for questioning and taken to San Antonio Public Safety Headquarters downtown. Officers said “no charges have been filed” against him at that point. Fox San Antonio reported that several people were taken into custody after a brief standoff involving the San Antonio Police Street Crimes Unit and a covert unit. Police did not release a motive.

The Medical Drive address had drawn repeated police attention before Friday’s killing. SAPD records reviewed by local media showed more than 100 police calls tied to the location from June 16, 2024, to June 12, 2026. Those calls included disturbances, welfare checks, silent alarms, assaults, reports of gun-related disturbances and reports of shots fired or heard. Police logged 21 incidents at the address in 2026 before and including the fatal stabbing, 74 calls in 2025 and 48 incidents in the second half of 2024. The records do not show that those earlier calls were tied to Friday’s attack.

The store is listed as a 24-hour business, but the owner said it would remain closed until Monday after the killing. A candlelight vigil was scheduled for 10 p.m. Friday outside the store. Family and community members gathered near the business as police continued working the case. Investigators have not said whether they recovered a knife, whether surveillance video clearly shows the suspect or whether the person detained was considered a suspect, witness or person of interest.

Police said the investigation remained active and that preliminary information could change. The next formal update is expected to come through SAPD investigators or the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office as they confirm the victim’s identity, the cause of death and whether charges will be filed.
