Man dies, child injured in shooting during little league game

GLASSMANOR, MD – A man was killed and a five-year-old child injured in a shooting that took place at a little league football game in Glassmanor, Maryland, says Prince George’s County Police Department. The incident occurred at Potomac High School, located around 9 miles south of Washington, D.C., and is currently under investigation.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:20 a.m. while a little league game was in progress at the high school. A dispute broke out between two spectators, escalating till one of the individuals pulled out a firearm and shot at an adult male and a 5-year-old child, stated Police Chief Malik Aziz in a press briefing on Saturday.

The victims of the shooting were rushed to nearby hospitals, where the adult male succumbed to his injuries. According to Chief Aziz, the individuals involved in the conflict were not strangers. They appeared to have had ongoing issues that spilled over into the football game, where children were playing and enjoying the day with their families.

In a particularly tragic turn of events, it was mentioned that the day’s events were organized to support an individual grappling with a life-threatening ailment. The child victim, who suffered multiple gunshot injuries, is still under medical care at the hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that a coach heard the gunshots in the midst of a play. The police department now urges anyone with information about the incident to reach out to the Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit.
