Man convicted in double murder and kidnapping released by accident

MIAMI, FL – A convicted murderer who was mistakenly released from a Miami-Dade jail has been apprehended in Georgia, following an intensive multi-state manhunt. James Daniels, 60, was captured in Reynolds, Georgia, after a tip-off led U.S. Marshals to his location.

Daniels, convicted of the gruesome kidnapping, torture, and murder of two men in Opa-locka in 2020, was serving a life sentence. A third victim survived the ordeal. Last week, Daniels was transferred from a state facility in Lake City, Florida, to Miami-Dade custody to face additional local charges. However, within two days, an error led to his unexpected release.

Authorities quickly mobilized a search effort, and their investigation revealed Daniels had fled to Georgia. In a surprising twist, Reynolds Councilwoman Tamisha Price was arrested alongside Daniels. Price faces charges for allegedly aiding in Daniels’ evasion of law enforcement. The nature of their relationship remains unclear, and officials have indicated that further charges may be forthcoming.

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has initiated an investigation into the circumstances of Daniels’ release. They have assured the public that any individuals found responsible for this oversight will face appropriate consequences.

This incident has raised concerns about procedural lapses within the corrections system. Officials are under pressure to demonstrate accountability and ensure such an error does not recur. The focus now shifts to preventing future breaches in security and maintaining public trust.
