NAIROBI, KENYA – Police have apprehended a primary suspect in connection with the discovery of nine dismembered female bodies found in a quarry in Nairobi. Authorities revealed that Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, 33, has confessed to the murders of 42 women, including his wife, since 2022, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
The gruesome discovery came after relatives of one of the missing women reported having a dream in which she directed them to search the quarry. Acting on this vision, a local diver was enlisted to help, leading to the grim find of bodies wrapped in sacks.
Police have recovered several smartphones and identity cards from Khalusha’s residence, located a short distance from the quarry. The suspect is expected to appear in court on Tuesday to face charges.
In response to the shocking revelations, Acting Police Inspector General Douglas Kanja announced the transfer of officers from a nearby station to facilitate a thorough investigation. The local community had previously accused the police of negligence, given the quarry’s proximity and the unresolved cases of missing persons.
Human rights organizations have called on Kenya’s security agencies to expedite investigations into all reports of enforced disappearances. Concerns have risen that the discovered bodies might be linked to recent abductions and arrests during anti-government protests.
As the investigation unfolds, the community and authorities alike are grappling with the scale of the crimes and the potential implications for ongoing security and human rights efforts in the region.
