Man charged after he shoots himself while asleep

Yesterday, a 62-year-old Lake Barrington, Illinois man had a bizarre brush with the local law enforcement after experiencing a gunslinging nightmare.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the man was dreaming of a home intruder and responded by retrieving his .357 Magnum Revolver and shooting at the imagined person. He wound up accidentally shooting himself in the leg. Fortunately, he was the only one hurt and there was no sign of any real intruder.

The report specified that circumstances surrounding the event warranted charging the man with illegally possessing a firearm and recklessly discharging said firearm. Rightfully so, the possession of a gun and ammunition in the state of Illinois necessitates a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card which the man was reported for holding with a revoked license.

The incident occurred at dusk on April 10. First aid was immediately needed as the man began to bleed profusely. He was quickly brought to a hospital, where he was later released on a bail for a court hearing on June 29.

Though the man’s recklessness could have posed a large threat, nobody else was significantly hurt, and hopefully the consequence of his actions remain proportionate with the gravity of the situation.
