LONG BEACH, CA – A man has been apprehended in Las Vegas in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Long Beach in early August, authorities said. The arrest comes after an exhaustive investigation by the Long Beach Police Department, which identified the suspect as 41-year-old Ronald Guidry from Torrance.
The disturbing incident unfolded on August 4 on the 3300 block of 67th Street, around 2:40 p.m. Officers who responded to the scene discovered a teenage male from Bell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts to revive him, the teen was pronounced dead at the site.
Initial investigations revealed that the boy was driven to the area by an adult male relative. Shortly after exiting the vehicle, the victim was reportedly followed by an unknown group. The shooting subsequently occurred, inflicting injuries on both the teenager and the relative’s vehicle. The relative, suffering minor injuries, managed to quickly leave the scene and contacted authorities.
In the days that followed, the group responsible escaped on foot, evading immediate capture. The Long Beach police continued their pursuit, gathering evidence that eventually led them to Guidry. On October 17, he was arrested with assistance from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Investigation details revealed that the shooting was gang-related, underscoring the ongoing issues with gang violence in the area. Long Beach Police Chief Wally Hebeish affirmed the importance of the arrest as a step toward justice. He emphasized the department’s unwavering commitment to combating gang violence and ensuring those involved are held accountable.
Guidry’s extradition to Los Angeles County is pending, while the Long Beach Police Department expressed gratitude to their Las Vegas counterparts for their instrumental role in apprehending the suspect.
