Mall shootout leaves 7-year-old girl critically injured

BALTIMORE, MD – A shooting incident at Mondawmin Mall left a 7-year-old girl critically injured on Saturday afternoon, Baltimore City police confirmed. The incident transpired around 1:30 p.m. when an altercation broke out between two groups inside the mall.

A man, yet to be identified, fired his gun while fleeing the scene. The little girl, who police say was not the intended target of the shooting, was shot in the abdomen during the fight.

An anonymous witness shared his accounts from the scene. According to him, he heard a gunshot and noticed people rushing towards exits.

Choosing to aid instead of escape, he ran towards the injured girl, applying pressure to her stomach where she’d been shot. The witness lauded the girl’s bravery, remarking, “She was a real trooper… she did not shed a single tear the whole time.”

Currently, the 7-year-old victim remains in critical but stable condition. Detectives are currently working to identify and apprehend the suspect. Baltimore police Commissioner Richard Worley confidently stated that they would capture the perpetrator while urging him to surrender.

Authorities are appealing to anyone with information related to the case to contact detectives. Individuals wishing to remain anonymous can submit tips via Metro Crime Stoppers.
