Longtime security guard shot and killed outside workplace

ANAHEIM, CA – Authorities in Orange County are appealing to the public for assistance following the tragic shooting death of a seasoned security guard over the weekend. Salvador Ramirez, 48, succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital Monday evening.

Family and friends gathered at the site where Ramirez worked, a bar called 99 Bottles, to remember him. A growing memorial marks the spot, reflecting the deep impact he had on those who knew him. Michael Vega, Ramirez’s nephew, described his uncle as a protector, both for his family and the patrons he served.

Vega shared that Ramirez had a special connection with the bar, having worked there for nearly a decade. “He loved people and always ensured their safety,” Vega recalled. “In a place where drinks and people mix, he was the one watching out for everyone.”

Ramirez was well-loved, known for his warm personality and infectious smile. “He made everyone feel seen and valued,” Vega added.

The incident occurred just before 1 a.m. on Sunday. According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Ramirez was shot in the head by an unknown assailant who then fled the scene. Joanna Guerrero, who was working alongside Ramirez that night, described the chaos that ensued.

“I heard the commotion and rushed to help him,” Guerrero recounted. Despite the pandemonium, her focus remained on her friend. “He was the light of 99 Bottles and will be dearly missed.”

In the wake of the tragedy, Ramirez’s family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and support his five children. They are determined to see justice served.

“We want the person responsible to know the gravity of their actions,” Vega said. “Justice for Sal is our priority.”

The shopping plaza on Katella Avenue, where the crime took place, is equipped with several security cameras. Detectives have been canvassing the area, but no further details have been released about the investigation.
