Lieutenant killed by her husband in murder staged as suicide

ORLANDO, FL – Authorities have charged a former law enforcement officer with murder, unraveling a tragic case initially believed to be a suicide. Lt. Eloilda “Ellie” Shea, 39, was found dead in Orlando’s Rio Pinar neighborhood, but an investigation revealed she was fatally shot by her estranged husband, Anthony Shea.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene on October 14, initially suspecting suicide. However, further investigation by homicide detectives uncovered evidence that Anthony Shea attempted to disguise the murder as a suicide, including sending misleading messages from Ellie’s phone. The revelations led to his arrest on first-degree murder charges. He remains in custody without bond.

Anthony Shea, previously a sergeant at the sheriff’s office, resigned earlier this year amid an internal investigation. The specific allegations were not disclosed, but they might have led to his dismissal.

Expressing gratitude for the detectives’ perseverance, the sheriff’s office acknowledged the emotional toll of investigating a colleague’s death. The office released a statement mourning Ellie Shea, praising her as a beloved figure known for her vibrant personality and dedication.

Ellie joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2011 and was recognized as a compassionate officer and mentor. She leaves behind two daughters, 7-year-old Lana and 2-year-old Raquel. The community is rallying to support them through a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $38,000 of its $100,000 goal.

The fundraiser seeks to provide for Ellie Shea’s children during this challenging time, inviting contributions from those wishing to aid the family. The community is urged to keep the family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this profound loss.
