LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – A startling crime took place within a senior care facility in Gwinnett County, Georgia. An elderly man has been detained in connection to his wife’s suspicious death.
The alleged incident unfolded at the Linwood Estates Gracious Retirement Living located on Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. Emergency personnel initially arrived at the scene around 10 a.m. but quickly suspected foul play after discovering a deceased elderly woman in one of the rooms.
Cpl. Juan Madiedo of the Gwinnett County Police Department reported that an elderly woman was found dead in a room at the retirement home. Observing the suspicious circumstances of the woman’s death, the police promptly took into custody the other occupant of the room, an elderly man.
Authorities identified the suspect as 81-year-old Richard Hayden and the deceased as his 71-year-old wife, Grace Hayden. The cause of Grace’s death and the factors preceding the incident remain under investigation.
Regarding any possible motives, Madiedo noted that they are presently undetermined as the investigators diligently strive to ascertain what transpired.
A resident of the facility, who requested to remain anonymous, expressed concern and shock over the incident. She stated that the management had divulged scant details about the incident, leaving the residents feeling unsettled and threatened.
Efforts to solicit comments from the facility management remained unanswered at the time of reporting.
