Husband brutally murders wife in front of their 8-year-old daughter

HOUSTON, TX – A tragic incident unfolded in a Sunnyside home in Houston early Wednesday morning, resulting in the arrest and charging of a husband accused of fatally stabbing his wife before attempting suicide, as reported by the Houston Police Department.

Michael Simpson, 58, now faces charges of murder and aggravated assault using a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court. Simpson is currently being hospitalized for his self-inflicted injuries. He has no booking photo available for release at this time.

The victim, a 49-year-old woman, awaits official identification while in the process of being verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The disturbing incident came to light when HPD patrol officers responded to a disturbance call around 4:05 a.m. at a residence on Elberta Street. According to officers, they received information that Simpson was attacking the victim, who happened to be his wife.

Upon arrival, officers swiftly moved to the back of the home, where they encountered an 8-year-old girl fleeing toward the front door. The child, in distress, informed the officers that “daddy was stabbing mommy,” HPD reported.

Inside the residence, the police discovered the victim in an unresponsive state. Simultaneously, they found Simpson, the alleged attacker, suffering from severe self-inflicted injuries. Tragically, Houston Fire Department paramedics declared the victim deceased at the scene, while Simpson was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in custody.

Following consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Simpson was charged for his alleged role in the stabbing and subsequently taken into custody on Wednesday.
