Home collapse impacts family of seven

ANGLETON, TX – In Brazoria County, Texas, an adult and a 17-year-old student have tragically died while attempting to level a mobile home that consequently collapsed, reports the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office.

The deadly incident took place on Sunday afternoon in the 2000 block of CR 49, located just east of Highway 288. Family members became entrapped under the house as it collapsed while they were attempting to level it. Emergency responders were called to the scene around 5 p.m. by family members.

An aerial view of the accident site reveals a hydraulic jack and broken cinder blocks scattered around the collapsed home. The trapped family members were evidently pinned under the house’s beams, necessitating a floor-breakthrough and rescue operation by first responders.

Emergency services were able to rescue five people from the wreckage. Four of the survivors were air-evacuated via Life Flight, including a 15-year-old girl, a 16-year-old boy, and a 38-year-old woman, all of whom are in stable condition.

A 15-year-old boy is, however, in critical condition and has undergone several surgeries. A 42-year-old man, also rescued, received medical treatment and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.

Unfortunately, a 31-year-old and a 17-year-old lost their lives in the tragic accident. The latter, a recent enrollee at Brazosport ISD, attended the school for only one day. According to officials, the incident might have resulted from an equipment failure.
