High Point Couple Dead After Stabbing and Police Shooting

Police said two juveniles fled the home before officers forced entry and found a violent scene inside.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — A woman was found fatally stabbed and a man was shot and killed by police Sunday night after officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Jamesford Drive, authorities said.

High Point police said the case has opened two investigations: a homicide inquiry into the woman’s death and a North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation review of the officer-involved shooting. No officers were physically injured. Four officers connected to the response were placed on paid administrative leave under department policy.

The call came in at about 7:57 p.m. Sunday from the 4500 block of Jamesford Drive, police said. Initial information given to dispatchers said an active assault involving a knife was happening inside the home. Police said that information came from a neighbor after two juveniles fled during the assault. Officers arrived at about 8:07 p.m. and knocked on the front door but received no answer. Two other officers moved to the rear of the home and saw signs of a violent assault. Officers at the front then forced entry and found an adult male covered in blood and armed with a knife, according to the department.

Police said officers gave the man several commands, but he did not comply and advanced toward them while still holding the knife. Two officers fired their weapons, striking him. Officers then began giving medical aid, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. As officers searched the house for other people, they found an adult female with life-threatening stab wounds. She was pronounced dead a short time later. Authorities had not released the names of the man or woman as of Monday, citing the ongoing investigations. Police also had not released the exact relationship between the two adults and the juveniles.

Neighbors told local reporters the area near Jamesford Drive, Morris Drive and Hackney Way is usually quiet. One neighbor said he was outside checking sprinklers when he heard gunfire. “I heard four big shots in a row, like bang, bang, bang, bang,” the neighbor said. Another neighbor described the emergency response as unlike anything he had seen in the community. High Point Police Chief Curtis Cheeks III said domestic calls can change quickly because officers often do not know what is happening inside a home when they arrive.

The High Point Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating the woman’s death as a homicide. The SBI is investigating the shooting by officers, which is standard in North Carolina when police use deadly force. Police listed the case report number as 2026-13401. The department said there is no ongoing threat to the community and that no additional suspects or witnesses were being sought at the time of the update.

The department first announced the officer-involved shooting late Sunday and said a briefing would be held Monday morning at police headquarters. In an updated statement Monday, police provided the timeline, the address and the description of what officers reported seeing inside the home. Officials said further names and investigative details would not be released while the homicide and SBI reviews remain active. Any decision on additional public records, officer status or investigative findings is expected to follow those reviews.

Cheeks said the department works with local partners on domestic violence response and prevention. “Domestic incidents can often be volatile, and you often times just don’t know what’s going on inside of a household,” Cheeks said. Police said the two juveniles who left the home were the first people to alert a neighbor to the reported assault. Their ages were not released. Officials also did not say whether they were injured.

As of Monday evening, police said the scene was secure, the public was not in danger and the investigations remained open. The next major update is expected when authorities release the identities of the two adults or complete the SBI review.
