WOODRIDGE, IL – Two individuals lost their lives in a shooting incident that took place at a townhome complex in the southwest suburbs of Woodridge on Friday night. The suspected gunman later died in the hospital, Woodridge police confirmed Sunday.
The event unfolded at The Townhomes at Highcrest, located in the 3200 block of 83rd Street, around 9 p.m. Friday. Responding officers located two male victims who had been fatally shot at the scene. Their identities and ages have not been revealed.
Authorities also discovered another male, assumed to be the shooter, with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a hospital in a severely critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday evening.
A nearby resident reported having seen a man hiding in a community laundry room on Friday night. On further investigation, police located an unidentified male hidden in a hallway who sustained minor wounds.
According to the police, a woman and two children managed to escape from the home during the shooting and remained unharmed.
Residents of the area relayed the terrifying circumstances of the shooting, which occurred in close proximity to their homes. They reported victims fleeing from the gunfire and a woman shouting for help.
At this point, police believed the incident to be isolated and assured residents that there was no looming danger to the community. However, the unsettling event has prompted local residents to seek enhanced security measures at the complex. Many are even contemplating moving out due to safety concerns.
Police have not yet revealed the identities of the deceased victims and the suspect while the investigation is still underway. Additional details about the shooting were not provided immediately.
