KISSIMMEE, FL – A leisurely day on the golf course took a violent turn when an argument over pace of play led to an assault, leaving one golfer injured. Osceola County deputies reported that Jason Hughes attacked another golfer after becoming frustrated with the slow pace at a local course.
Witnesses described how the situation escalated quickly. Hughes, reportedly irritated by the delay, repeatedly urged the golfer ahead of him to speed up. The tension reached a boiling point when the victim paused to chat with a friend on the green. Hughes allegedly responded by assaulting the man, ignoring pleas to calm down.
The victim was left with a broken bone near his eye socket and required stitches on his cheek. He was taken to a hospital for treatment, while Hughes and his companion fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Golfers familiar with the course expressed their disbelief at the incident. “There’s no need for violence,” one said. “If there’s an issue, you can always call the clubhouse for assistance.”
The altercation, which occurred last month, was captured on surveillance video. This footage, along with credit card information used by Hughes at the club, helped deputies identify and apprehend him.
This isn’t the first time tempers have flared on the green. Earlier this year, a separate incident involving a dentist and a doctor ended with a judge ruling in favor of self-defense. Such episodes highlight the importance of maintaining courtesy and sportsmanship.
Hughes faces charges of aggravated battery causing bodily harm. Although he remains in custody, his bond has been set at $2,500, and he may be released soon.
