ROME, GA – A Georgia man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to a trailer with his stepmother inside because his mother refused to sell the property, according to local authorities.
Late Saturday night, Rome police officers responded to a call about a structure fire at 11 Addington Court. The caller reported that a woman was trapped inside the burning trailer. Upon arrival, officers observed flames engulfing the roof and blocking both the front and back doors, making entry impossible.
Outside the trailer, police found Edward Lary, 55, his 26-year-old son Timothy Edward Lary, and their 30-year-old neighbor Quentin Patric Ealy. According to police, Edward Lary pointed to his son and accused him of starting the fire, stating, “He set the fire and my wife is inside. I want him to go to jail.”
When questioned by police, Timothy Edward Lary allegedly admitted to setting the fire. He was promptly arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including felony murder, neglect to a disabled adult, three counts of cruelty to animals, three counts of first-degree arson, and two counts of aggravated assault.
Edward Lary told police that his son had been pressuring his mother to sell the lot and give him the proceeds. On the day of the incident, Timothy allegedly threatened to burn down the trailer while his father and stepmother were at work. According to Edward, Timothy ignited a pile of papers and threw them onto a mattress, starting the blaze.
Edward Lary recounted that he believed his wife was following him out of the trailer but realized she had gone back inside to rescue their pets—a cat and two dogs. Tragically, firefighters later found the bodies of the woman and the three pets inside the charred remains of the trailer.
During the arrest, officers discovered a small torch lighter and a small amount of marijuana on Timothy Edward Lary. As he was being driven away from the scene, he reportedly looked back at the trailer and said, “Yeah, let him get your ashes.”
