Gas station clerk shot dead over a bag of stolen chips

HUMBLE, TX – A gas station clerk was fatally shot by at least two suspects near Bush Intercontinental Airport Friday morning. The shooting followed an altercation allegedly over shoplifting, according to Humble police.

The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. in the 7400 block of Will Clayton Parkway and the Eastex Freeway in the turnaround lanes. Police found the victim, a man in his 40s who had been working at the location for three to four months, shot inside his car underneath the southbound ramp. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The confrontation began in a nearby Sunoco service station after two suspects were reportedly seen on the shop’s surveillance video shoplifting a bag of chips. The clerk pursued them on foot and decided to follow them in his vehicle after they fled from the store. According to police, at least one of the suspects then shot at the clerk’s vehicle, causing fatal injuries to the victim.

Both suspects fled the scene, one heading towards the railroad tracks and the other toward the freeway. Witnesses describe the suspects as Black males, aged between 18 and 25, and wearing black hoodies and jeans.

Authorities launched a manhunt for the suspects, who could potentially face capital murder charges for the incident. Individuals with information related to the case are urged to contact the Humble Police Department.
