Prosecutors reopened the 2021 case after reviewing statements Moreland made in a documentary released this year.
HENDERSON, NV — Former YouTube personality Bryant Turhanemmerson Moreland, known online as EDP445, was arrested in Southern Nevada after California prosecutors filed four felony sex crime charges stemming from an alleged 2021 incident involving a child under 14.
Moreland, 35, was arrested Nov. 4 with assistance from Las Vegas-area law enforcement and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. The Kern County District Attorney’s Office in California said the case was revived after prosecutors and sheriff’s investigators reviewed statements Moreland made in the documentary “The Sick Mind of EDP445,” which was released in August.
The criminal complaint charges Moreland with attempting to commit a lewd act upon a child, meeting a minor for lewd purposes, contacting a minor with intent to commit a sexual offense and distributing or showing pornography to a minor. The charges are allegations, and the case has not yet been resolved in court.
Prosecutors said the charges stem from an alleged incident on April 17, 2021, involving a child under 14. The district attorney’s office reviewed the matter in 2021 and again in 2022 but said there were significant obstacles to bringing a prosecution at that time, particularly because of a lack of cooperation from the people who reported the incident.
The case gained widespread attention online in 2021 after Moreland was confronted during a civilian-run internet sting in Bakersfield, California. Reporting at the time said an adult decoy had posed online as a 13-year-old girl before Moreland arrived at a planned meeting location. No criminal charges were filed against him at the time.
The investigation changed course after Moreland participated in “The Sick Mind of EDP445,” a documentary directed by filmmaker Mike Clum. The film revisited the 2021 allegations and included extended interviews in which Moreland discussed his actions surrounding the incident. The Kern County District Attorney’s Office said statements made in the documentary prompted prosecutors and the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to reopen the investigation.
After reviewing the new material, prosecutors said they determined there was enough evidence to meet the threshold for filing criminal charges. The district attorney’s office filed the complaint Nov. 2, two days before Moreland was taken into custody in Nevada.
Henderson police arrested Moreland on a California warrant shortly before noon Nov. 4 near the Green Valley and Pebble area, according to local reporting citing the department. He was later transferred to the Clark County Detention Center. Authorities have not announced separate Nevada charges related to the California case.
Moreland previously built a large online following through videos that included sports commentary and reactions, particularly about the Philadelphia Eagles. His public profile changed sharply after the 2021 confrontation and allegations involving communications with someone he believed to be a minor. His former YouTube presence was later removed from the platform.
Moreland is scheduled to appear in Las Vegas Justice Court on Monday, Nov. 9. California authorities are seeking his return to Kern County, where an arraignment is expected to be scheduled after extradition. No extradition date had been announced as of Friday.
