HENDERSON, NV – A courtroom in Henderson is witnessing a gripping trial as 47-year-old Evan Michaels faces charges for the alleged murder of Jonathan Mallette, the father of her children, in August 2023. Prosecutors claim that Michaels, a former adult film performer known by names Nikki Fairchild and Tracy Tavares, struck Mallette with a stick before decapitating him in his home.
Disturbing crime scene photos reveal bottles of chemicals that investigators suspect Michaels used in an attempt to burn the victim’s remains. Prosecutors describe the case as a “wild ride,” citing Michaels’ tumultuous relationship with Mallette and his son, Debbie Year Mallette, whom Michaels married in 2021.
The defense, led by attorney Proper Trask, presents a different narrative. Trask argues that Henderson police overlooked other potential suspects, focusing solely on Michaels. He highlighted a message sent by Michaels to Debbie Year Mallette days before the murder, accusing him of infidelity and expressing her desire for a divorce.
Prosecutors allege that Michaels viewed Mallette’s removal as the only way to secure her desired future, especially after losing custody of her two children. Meanwhile, Mallette was reportedly moving into her home for stability.
Debbie Year Mallette is not facing charges and is expected to testify in the trial. Prosecutors have confirmed no cell phone or video evidence links him to the crime.
The murder weapon and the victim’s head remain missing, adding complexity to the case. Michaels’ legal troubles continue, as she was previously in court on a child abuse charge shortly after the murder.
