Unsubstantiated accusation lead to man being tortured and forced to walk off a cliff to his death

A Nevada man will spend the rest of his life in prison for the brutal murder of Roy Jaggers. On Thursday, Brad Mehn, 43, was sentenced to life behind bars without the possibility of parole.

Mehn was convicted of first-degree murder and kidnapping with a deadly weapon on Tuesday. The two other individuals involved, Heather Pate and Kevin Dent, had pled guilty to second-degree murder last month.

The killing, which prosecutors said was motivated by a baseless allegation of child abuse, took place in Las Vegas in 2021. Mehn, Pate, and Dent lured Jaggers to Pate’s home, where they handcuffed and beat him before wrapping him in a tarp and putting him in the back of a car. The suspects drove Jaggers to Nye County, where they tortured him with an array of weapons, including a blow torch, knives, and an ax. he was stripped, Mehn forced him to walk off a cliff.

The Nye County Sheriff’s Department said the three perpetrators will serve long sentences for their crimes. Mehn in particular will face an extra sentencing in August for the torture and firearms enhancement charges.

Nye County District Attorney Brian Kunzi said the case was a tragedy that highlighted the often terrible consequences of making false accusations.
