Police said an armed robbery at King Jewelers led to a multijurisdictional Interstate 65 chase that ended in Clinton County.
INDIANAPOLIS, IN — Five people, including two juveniles, were taken into custody after an armed robbery at an Indianapolis jewelry store where more than $2 million in cash, jewelry and precious metals was stolen, according to police and local reports.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers were called at about 12:55 p.m. Aug. 10 to a robbery in progress in the 4900 block of South Emerson Avenue on the city’s southeast side. The business was identified in subsequent reporting as King Jewelers. Police said people inside the store had been restrained while the robbery was carried out. No injuries were reported.
Police said witnesses provided descriptions of the suspects and their getaway vehicle, allowing officers to quickly share the information with other law enforcement agencies. Indiana State Police troopers later located the vehicle near Lebanon in Boone County using automated license plate-reading technology. When troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, its driver fled, authorities said.
The attempted stop developed into a pursuit along Interstate 65 that continued north through multiple counties. Police eventually stopped the vehicle in Clinton County. All five occupants then ran from the vehicle, according to authorities. Officers searched the surrounding area with assistance from drones, police dogs and a state police helicopter before taking all five into custody.
Investigators recovered the vehicle and several bags of evidence after the pursuit, police said. Later reporting placed the stolen property at about $2 million in jewelry and other valuables along with roughly $65,000 in cash. Authorities have described the case as an armed robbery, but the allegations against those detained have not been proven in court.
Three of the people arrested are adults and two are juveniles, ages 16 and 17, according to local reporting. All five were arrested on preliminary armed robbery allegations. Because the investigation and charging process remain ongoing, preliminary allegations may be changed or supplemented as prosecutors review evidence gathered by police.
Court documents cited by Indianapolis news organizations allege that the five suspects have connections to Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan-origin gang designated by the U.S. government as a foreign terrorist organization. The reported gang connection remains an allegation in the criminal investigation and does not establish the guilt of any individual in the jewelry store robbery.
The arrests followed a rapid response involving Indianapolis police, Indiana State Police and officers operating across several counties. Authorities said no one was injured during either the robbery or the pursuit. Investigators have not publicly detailed every item recovered or said whether all of the property reported stolen has been accounted for.
The case remains under investigation as detectives and prosecutors review evidence from the store, the getaway vehicle and the arrests. Further information about formal charges and court proceedings is expected to depend on filings by prosecutors and the handling of the two juvenile cases.
