BROCKTON, MA – In recent weeks, a wave of speculation has swept through New England, fueled by the discovery of seven bodies in various locations across the region. Despite law enforcement’s insistence that there is no connection between the cases, the internet is abuzz with theories suggesting the presence of a serial killer.
The conversation gained momentum on platforms like Facebook, where groups such as New England SK, boasting nearly 9,000 members, discuss the possibility of a serial killer targeting the area. This online chatter has become so pronounced that police have felt compelled to address the rumors. In Groton, Connecticut, authorities issued a statement clarifying that there is no current evidence linking their cases with those in Rhode Island, despite the geographical proximity.
Since March, bodies have surfaced in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Some remain unidentified, including those found in Groton and Killingly, Connecticut, which are close to Rhode Island’s border. In Massachusetts, a human skull discovered in Plymouth and another set of remains in Framingham are under investigation, though authorities have not linked these cases to any criminal activity.
The specter of New England’s dark past looms large, with memories of the late 1980s when a serial killer claimed the lives of nine women in New Bedford. Author Maureen Boyle, who chronicled those events, remains skeptical about the current situation. She warns against jumping to conclusions, emphasizing that the presence of bodies in various locations doesn’t automatically signal a serial killer’s work.
Boyle further cautions that rampant online speculation could cause harm. “This is not a game. These involve real people, real families. This is serious business,” she stressed, urging the public to consider the impact of their words on those grieving.
Authorities in Massachusetts continue to investigate the recent discoveries. The district attorney’s office in Framingham has stated that the case does not appear to involve foul play. Meanwhile, the investigation into the human skull found in Plymouth is ongoing, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
As the investigation proceeds, the public remains on edge, caught between the chilling possibilities of the unknown and the assurances of law enforcement. The situation serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between public curiosity and the respect owed to those who have lost their lives.
