PLANTATION, FL – A man from Alachua County, Florida, has been apprehended by federal authorities, accused of plotting a violent attack against a pro-Israel organization in South Florida. The FBI has intervened, preventing what could have been a significant threat to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Forrest Kendall Pemberton, the suspect, allegedly traveled to the area with multiple firearms, targeting an old AIPAC office location on Pine Island Road in Plantation. Despite the office having been relocated, Pemberton believed it to be the current site and rented a nearby hotel, according to court documents.
The investigation revealed that Pemberton was also interested in a local IRS office, which is situated close to the former AIPAC location. Court filings indicate that Pemberton left a farewell note for his family, suggesting he was prepared to execute his plan.
Authorities intercepted Pemberton on December 25th, coinciding with the first night of Hanukkah, in a rideshare vehicle. He was reportedly carrying a soft rifle case at the time. When questioned by investigators, Pemberton expressed uncertainty about his intentions, stating he had not decided whether to end his own life, dependent on whether he was caught.
The FBI’s investigation suggests that Pemberton targeted the AIPAC office due to its perceived political influence and geographic location. He reportedly expressed frustration with the current political climate, hoping his actions might instigate change.
Pemberton now faces federal stalking charges and is scheduled for a court appearance in Alachua County. The case underscores ongoing concerns about politically motivated threats and the vigilance required to prevent potential acts of violence.
The FBI’s swift action in this case highlights the importance of monitoring and addressing threats before they materialize, ensuring the safety of targeted groups and the broader community.
