Father of six dies in apartment fire

LARGO, MD – A devastating fire at the Northampton Apartment Homes in Largo, Maryland, resulted in the tragic death of two people and critically injured a child on Tuesday morning. The three victims lived in the same apartment unit.

Andra King, a 40-year-old father of six, was one of the victims who succumbed to the fire. King’s brother paid an emotional tribute to his lost sibling, describing him as particularly kind and loving. King was allegedly facing challenging times following the Key Bridge collapse, and the recent passing away of his parents has compounded the family’s grief.

Prince George’s County Fire & EMS rushed to the apartment complex around 4 a.m., responding to a two-alarm building fire. The fire had rapidly spread and engulfed the building’s roof. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered enormous flames, prompting evacuation and subsequent rescue efforts.

Despite the immense firefighting attempts, the building’s roof eventually collapsed. King was found dead on the spot. An unidentified woman was also discovered dead under the roof’s debris during a post-fire search. A child who was present at the fire was also rushed to the hospital with critical injuries.

The fire’s cause is under investigation. The Largo community has been urged to call Prince George’s County Fire & EMS to have smoke alarms installed and discuss fire safety plans as a preventative measure.
