Escapee found in California after 31 years

NEVADA CITY, CA – Ronald Keith Harvey, now 79, was apprehended last Thursday after evading capture for over three decades. Harvey escaped from the Federal Correctional Institution in Dublin in 1994, following his conviction for orchestrating a large-scale marijuana operation.

Harvey’s illegal activities were extensive, involving over 600 plants and firearms, marking it as a significant enterprise. Deputy U.S. Marshal Cruz Moya, who has been overseeing Harvey’s case, noted that a fresh lead earlier this year was crucial in tracking Harvey to his current location.

“Some individuals are more adept at avoiding justice,” Moya commented, reflecting on Harvey’s long evasion. The arrest took place in Nevada City, approximately 60 miles northeast of Sacramento, where Harvey had been residing since October.

Harvey was living with a woman named Deedee Brown, who claimed to have casually dated him about 35 years ago. Unaware of his fugitive status, Brown regularly consulted the Nevada County Sheriff to check if Harvey had any outstanding warrants.

“I was very shocked,” Brown stated, recalling her surprise when U.S. Marshals arrived at her home to arrest Harvey. She mentioned that Harvey rented a room and consistently paid rent.

Authorities revealed that Harvey still has about four years remaining on his original sentence. This time will likely be served alongside any new penalties for his escape and prolonged evasion.

Moya expressed uncertainty about Harvey’s whereabouts before moving in with Brown but was relieved to have finally recaptured him. “One thing about the Marshal Service is that we will find you,” he asserted.
