Eminem’s ex Kim Scott arrested for DUI after Michigan crash

The Eminem ex-wife faces misdemeanor counts tied to an alleged hit-and-run and intoxicated driving.

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, MI — Police body-camera video released this week shows Kim Scott, rapper Eminem’s ex-wife, appearing disoriented as officers question her about a vehicle crash and take her into custody on suspicion of drunken driving in suburban Detroit.

The footage and a police report add new details to a case that began late Feb. 16, when officers responded to a neighborhood complaint about a white Range Rover that had struck a parked vehicle and left the scene. Scott is accused of driving while intoxicated and failing to stop after property damage, both misdemeanors. The case has drawn attention because of Scott’s past ties to one of music’s best-known artists and because the incident involved a crash on a residential street near her home.

Investigators say the events started around 8 p.m. on Feb. 16 after Scott left her home with her teenage son, Parker, and three of his friends, apparently heading out to shop. Authorities say the Range Rover hit a parked vehicle on the street and did not stop. Minutes later, the SUV returned to the same neighborhood, where it struck Scott’s garage door as she tried to pull into her driveway. A neighbor called police after seeing the damage and watching the vehicle return to a nearby house. In the body-camera video, Scott speaks slowly and seems confused as an officer asks what happened. At one point, she asks officers to notify her family about what is going on, and they agree to do so.

According to a police report described in published accounts, an officer went to the home where the Range Rover was parked and found Scott at the door. She acknowledged the SUV belonged to her and told the officer she understood why police were there, the report said. When asked about the collision, she admitted hitting the parked vehicle but claimed another car contributed to the crash, according to the report. In one exchange captured on video, Scott initially tells an officer she had not been drinking, then later acknowledges having a drink earlier in the evening after the officer references the garage damage. Officers noted signs of impairment, including glossy eyes, slurred or slowed speech and a lethargic demeanor, the report said, along with a strong odor of alcohol on her breath.

Police administered a preliminary breath test and then a breathalyzer, with a reported blood-alcohol reading of 0.079%. Michigan’s legal limit for operating while intoxicated is 0.08%, but drivers can still be arrested if officers believe alcohol has impaired their ability to drive safely. During the search of the Range Rover, officers reported finding an empty Crown Royal Apple mini bottle in the driver’s-side door and a root beer can that appeared to contain an alcoholic mixture. Body-camera footage also shows officers looking through the vehicle and discussing containers that appeared to be soda mixed with alcohol. Scott was arrested on suspicion of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and for leaving the scene after property damage, according to the report.

Some early reports said Scott was transported to a hospital for injuries after officers arrived in the neighborhood and that she was released the next morning. The later police account describes her being taken into custody and booked, with officers observing her nodding off and appearing to go limp while awaiting instructions, according to the report. Scott’s attorney, Michael Smith, said in an earlier statement that he was not aware of an active warrant at that time and described the situation as unfortunate, while also calling Scott “a good person” and “a beautiful human being.” The sequence of medical care and booking has not been fully detailed in publicly available records, and authorities have not released a full incident narrative beyond what was described in reports and shown in the video excerpts.

Scott, 51, has long been linked to Eminem, whose legal name is Marshall Mathers III, through a relationship that became widely known as his music rose to national fame. The two married in 1999, divorced in 2001 and briefly remarried in 2006 before separating again. They share a daughter, Hailie Jade, who has been referenced in Eminem’s work and has recently been in the public eye for family milestones. In Michigan, cases involving alleged impaired driving are typically handled in district court, and prosecutors can use officer observations, breath-test results, and video evidence when deciding how to proceed. In this case, the reported body-camera footage provides a real-time record of Scott’s condition and statements as officers questioned her.

As of this week, Scott faces two misdemeanor allegations related to intoxicated driving and failing to stop after property damage. Court records cited in published accounts describe the operating-while-intoxicated count and the failure-to-stop-or-identify count. Her initial court appearance had not been listed in those reports, and no plea or public statement from Scott has been reported. It is also not clear whether any additional traffic offenses will be added or whether prosecutors will seek conditions tied to driving privileges while the case is pending. Authorities have not reported serious injuries from the neighborhood collisions, but the crash sequence involved multiple impacts, including the garage-door strike at Scott’s home.

The body-camera clips show a low-key but tense scene, with officers speaking calmly while trying to determine what happened and whether Scott was impaired. Scott does not appear to resist as officers move to handcuff her after the breath test, and she focuses on making sure someone in her family is informed. Officers are heard referencing the crash damage and asking about drinking, while Scott’s answers shift as the questioning continues. The video also shows officers searching the SUV and pointing out containers they believe were mixed with alcohol, adding visual details that match what the police report described. The footage has circulated widely online, turning a local criminal case into a nationally discussed story.

The case remains in the early stages, with the next milestone expected to be Scott’s first court appearance in Macomb County district court, where a judge would review the charges and set future dates. Prosecutors have not publicly outlined a timeline for filings beyond the misdemeanor counts now reported.
