MINNEAPOLIS, MN – A deadly hit-and-run incident led to the death of a teenage girl and the hospitalization of five individuals on Saturday morning. Minneapolis Police Department reported the incident happening around 12:23 a.m., near Fifth Street North and Hennepin Avenue.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara stated that during a fistfight involving teenagers and young adults on the sidewalk, one participant got into an SUV and plowed into the crowd of 15 people before fleeing the scene. The attack resulted in six additional people being injured.

Tragically, a 16-year-old girl, identified as De’Miaya Broome, succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Also severely hurt was a 29-year-old woman who remains critical. Two teenage girls and two men in their mid-twenties were also injured but are expected to recover.

According to De’Miaya’s mother, Andrea Mitchell Broome, De’Miaya was a recent transfer student to the Minnesota Internship Center, and her aspiration was to become a nurse.
