EAST HOLLYWOOD, CA – In East Hollywood on Sunday morning, a driver lost control of her car and stormed into a liquor store, causing substantial damage and scattering merchandise around the store. The incident took place at around 2:30 a.m. near Berendo Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
Footage of the aftermath displayed the Honda CR-V trapped inside the store, with frontal damage from the intensity of the crash. The collision severely damaged the metal columns separating the windowpanes of the store.
In addition to the structural damage, product instances hint at a scattered scene within the store. An ATM and lottery machine are among the casualties of the incident.
Initially, the case seemed to point toward an attempted smash-and-grab robbery using the vehicle as a tool. However, the Los Angeles Police Department clarified that the incident was a mere case of a driver losing control of her car.
The female driver was tested for alcohol consumption, but the results came out negative. There is no clear answer yet regarding the reason behind her losing control over the vehicle.
In the aftermath of the crash, the owners of the store were seen attempting to clean up. The owners, who’ve operated the store at that location for over 10 years and work every day of the week, expect the store to remain closed until they can assess the damage fully.
