Detroit man arrested for torching gas station with clerk inside

A Detroit man was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly setting a convenience store on fire with the clerk trapped inside.

The incident occurred on June 20 at around 2:50 a.m. at a gas station on West Seven Mile Road.

The suspect was caught on surveillance footage entering the store with a blue blowtorch in his hand and dumping the contents of a trash bin on the floor. He then exchanged words with the clerk before setting the trash on fire with the blowtorch and fleeing the scene.

The shocking video shows the suspect pointing to the trash pile on the floor and saying something to the clerk before igniting the fire.

The flames quickly spread through the room, and the suspect fled as the ceiling was engulfed in red flames. The clerk suffered first-degree burns and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The Detroit Police Department announced the suspect’s arrest on Wednesday but did not release his name. The motive for the arson is still unknown.
