Delivery driver shot and killed by armed robber

OPA-LOCKA, FL – A random armed robbery resulted in the death of an Uber delivery driver at an apartment complex in Opa-locka on Saturday, according to local authorities. The police discovered the man, whose identity has yet to be released, suffering from gunshot wounds at the Mirage at Sailboat Cove Apartments, located in the 1700 block of NW 142nd Lane, around 8 a.m.

The man was delivering food when an armed individual confronted and shot him. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The fatal shooting led to an intense search operation involving a police tactical unit and a helicopter. The search lasted several hours, resulting in the temporary closure of the apartment complex.

Miami-Dade Police Detective Angel Rodriguez confirmed a person had been detained to ascertain their involvement in the incident. However, law enforcement couldn’t provide a detailed description of the shooter, who remains at large.

The incident raised concerns among the apartment complex’s residents, triggering questions about safety measures in place. A recent resident, King Jordan, expressed worry over the unfortunate event, attributing a sense of safety mostly to the gated community and a nightly police presence.

The Opa-locka Police Department has urged anyone with useful information about the incident to come forward and contact the Miami-Dade Police Department or Crime Stoppers.
