A tragic accident in Brooklyn on Monday left two individuals dead and five others injured when a T-bone crash caused a vehicle to careen into pedestrians. The incident occurred shortly before 1 p.m. in the Bensonhurst neighborhood.
A 49-year-old man lost control of his car while driving on 18th Avenue, reportedly running a red light and subsequently colliding with another vehicle at the intersection of 64th Street.
Surveillance video captured the cars spinning out of control following the impact, with one ending up on the sidewalk and the other skidding down the street.
Debris from the vehicles was scattered across the pavement and sidewalk as first responders hurried to transport the victims to nearby medical facilities. Two of the injured individuals were taken to Maimonides Hospital but, unfortunately, did not survive their injuries. Of the remaining victims, one was in critical condition, while the other four were listed as stable.
The driver of the car that jumped the curb was taken into custody at the scene on unspecified charges.
