Deadly shooting breaks out at memorial for car crash victim

A tragic event unfolded in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood, leaving one dead and six wounded in the aftermath of a shooting.

Local residents were gathered to remember the life of a car accident victim who died four years ago. A dispute erupted amongst the gathering, which escalated into gunfire, according to Chicago police’s acting deputy chief.

First responders found a 25-year-old woman unresponsive at the scene. Despite their immediate efforts, she was declared deceased after being transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Among the injured, a 17-year-old girl was hit in the leg and subsequently received treatment at West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park. Reports confirmed her to be in good health. A 29-year-old man, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was rushed to Stroger Hospital, with his condition deemed critical.

Additionally, two men aged 27 and 29 respectively, suffered gunshot injuries, while a 28-year-old man was shot in both arm and leg. A 28-year-old woman also incurred a gunshot wound to the ear.

All four individuals were taken to Stroger Hospital and their condition was reported as stable.

As of the latest reports, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Authorities continue to probe the shooting as they work towards apprehending those responsible.
