MIAMI, FL – A South Florida couple is in federal custody and expected to return to Miami following allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a minor. The pair, who reportedly fled the city to evade arrest, now face serious charges related to child endangerment.
Neighbors expressed shock upon learning about the allegations. One man, who declined to be identified, shared his disbelief and disappointment, having lived near the couple until recently. The new tenant in the couple’s former apartment had just moved in as details of the case began to emerge.
Authorities have charged 49-year-old Edwin Vazquez Vazquez and 39-year-old Julian Castro Garcia with multiple offenses. They are accused of exploiting a 13-year-old girl who had been entrusted to their care. According to police reports, the wife allegedly encouraged her husband to engage in inappropriate acts with the child, and she, too, reportedly participated in the misconduct on at least one occasion.
The girl’s family, who met the couple through their church and perceived them as trustworthy, now grapples with the betrayal. The church connection, which initially fostered trust, has become a poignant reminder that appearances can be deceiving.
The arrest report details six incidents, including one where the teenager spent the night at the couple’s residence. She reported being instructed by Castro Garcia to sleep next to Vazquez, who allegedly touched her inappropriately and attempted to initiate sexual contact multiple times.
Authorities began their investigation after the incidents were reported, but the couple disappeared, prompting a search by U.S. Marshals. They were eventually located and apprehended in Lee County, near Fort Myers. Their extradition to Miami is underway, where they will face multiple felony charges.
As the legal process continues, the community is left to process the disturbing allegations, reflecting on the hidden dangers that can lurk behind seemingly benign facades.
