College football player drowns after going cliff diving

LOGAN, UT – Tragedy struck the sporting community as Utah State cornerback Andre Seldon Jr. was reported dead following an apparent drowning at Porcupine Reservoir, stated official school representatives.

After receiving reports of a youth who had not resurfaced after diving from reservoir cliffs, the Cache County Sheriff’s Office launched an intensive search on Saturday afternoon. The dive team found his body later that evening. The Sheriff’s Office believes, based on multiple corroborating witness accounts, that his death was an unfortunate accident.

Seldon was a recent addition to Utah State’s football team, transferring from New Mexico State where he had played for the past two seasons under interim head coach and defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling. Earlier in his career, he had played two seasons at Michigan.

Dreiling shared the heartbreak of the football program and extended condolences to Seldon’s family. He described him as an “incredible person and teammate”. Dreiling had recently been promoted following the termination of Blake Anderson due to policy violations.

In the previous season, Seldon made significant contributions to New Mexico State, appearing in 15 games and making 36 tackles, seven pass breakups, and an interception. His former team expressed their sorrow over his passing through a social media post.

Seldon was enrolled for fall semester classes at Utah State at the time of his death. The University’s Vice President and Athletic Director, Diana Sabau, communicated the profound sadness of the university’s athletic family over Seldon’s sudden demise. Prayers and condolences have been extended to the deceased’s friends, family, teammates, and all those close to him.
