FARMINGTON HILLS, MI – A typical Tuesday morning turned chaotic when a car hurtled through the air and crashed into an apartment complex, leaving residents and passersby stunned. The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m., as residents of the Ferndale One Apartments were going about their daily routines.
Witnesses reported hearing a loud crash, followed by the sight of a car flipping through the air before slamming into the building. Adriana Dobbins, who was in the courtyard at the time, described the shock of seeing the vehicle fly into view and land with a thud. “I heard it before I saw it,” she recounted, “and I assumed it was just a really bad crash. Then, all of a sudden, this car came sailing through the air.”
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which involved a 38-year-old driver from Southfield. Preliminary reports suggest the driver lost control of the vehicle about a block away, causing it to veer onto the lawn before flipping over and crashing into the building. The impact left a section of the building’s facade damaged and bricks scattered across the walkway.
Will Turner, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, expressed concern for the driver, who was extracted from the wreckage and transported to the hospital. “I hope he’s okay,” Turner said, noting that the driver was conscious and alert when emergency services arrived.
Remarkably, the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover. Witnesses noted the severity of the crash, with one observer commenting that the impact was so intense that the driver’s shoes and socks were dislodged.
The owner of the apartment complex rushed to the scene from Canton upon hearing the news. He expressed relief that none of the building’s occupants were injured, stating, “Thank God nobody was hurt.” The part of the building where the car struck houses a stairwell, and checks confirmed that the apartments behind it remained safe and unharmed.
Local authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to piece together the events leading up to the crash. Meanwhile, building inspectors are evaluating the structural integrity of the complex to ensure the safety of its residents.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of accidents and the fortunate outcome that spared residents from harm.
