No people or animals were injured, but the six-month-old shop sustained an estimated $15,000 to $20,000 in damage.
DORAL, FL — A driver crashed through the front of a pet grooming business early Sunday morning, leaving a large hole in the building and extensive damage inside, authorities and the shop’s owner said.
The crash happened at Leslye Pet Grooming near Northwest 52nd Street and Northwest 79th Avenue. No employees, customers or animals were inside the business at the time, and police reported no injuries.
Doral police said the driver was attempting to park when she pressed the accelerator instead of the brake. The vehicle then traveled through the shop’s glass entrance and came to a stop inside the lobby.
Business owner Juan Sanchez said police called him around 6 a.m. to tell him that a vehicle had struck the shop. When he arrived, he found the entrance shattered and much of the interior damaged.
“I got here and everything was destroyed,” Sanchez told WSVN-TV. He said he was relieved that the crash happened while the business was empty and that no pets or people were harmed.
Video from the scene showed a white Chevrolet inside the shop before a tow truck removed it Sunday morning. The crash left an open section across the front of the building after the vehicle was pulled away.
Sanchez estimated the damage at between $15,000 and $20,000. He opened the grooming business about six months ago after turning his interest in caring for animals into a new venture.
The owner said he did not know when the shop would be able to reopen. Information about required building repairs or whether scheduled grooming appointments would be affected had not been released.
Police had not announced whether the driver would face a citation or charge. The circumstances described by authorities indicated the crash was accidental, and no additional investigation findings were immediately available.
