Body of missing 12-year-old boy found

NEW ORLEANS, LA – The search for 12-year-old Brian Vasquez, who went missing from his home in New Orleans East, ended tragically today. Rescuers, including the United Cajun Navy, discovered his body in the water, concluding a nearly two-week search effort.

The United Cajun Navy, alongside several agencies, utilized drones and dog teams from multiple states in their exhaustive search. Despite challenging environmental conditions, which included shifting winds and decaying vegetation, the search teams persevered. “The dogs were consistently indicating certain areas, but the environmental factors made it difficult,” a spokesperson for the United Cajun Navy explained.

Brian’s family was informed of the heartbreaking discovery this morning. The United Cajun Navy expressed sorrow over the outcome but was relieved to provide the family with some closure after weeks of uncertainty.

Media access to the scene was restricted, causing frustration among reporters. Alyssa Curtis, a journalist covering the story, described difficulties in obtaining information from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD). “We were unable to attend the press conference due to communication issues,” Curtis stated. Despite efforts to reach the NOPD for updates, reporters were left with little information.

Curtis recounted attempts to contact the NOPD Public Information Officer, Reese Harper, without success. The press release, which was supposed to provide details, was not received by media outlets, further complicating coverage.

The NOPD is expected to hold another press conference later today, although confirmation is still pending. Reporters remain on standby, eager to gather more information on this developing story.

As the community mourns, questions linger about the circumstances surrounding Brian’s disappearance.
