Bank robber nailed after crafty case work

EUREKA, MO – Over the weekend, a series of crimes unfolded in Eureka, culminating in the arrest of Jon Barry, a 57-year-old man now facing multiple charges. Barry, who was already on parole for burglary, was captured after a determined police investigation linked him to a bank robbery and a jewelry store break-in.

The Eureka Commerce Bank became a crime scene when Barry, disguised with glasses and a mask, made off with $2,000. His escape was captured by surveillance cameras, showing him heading into a nearby neighborhood. Doorbell video later revealed him driving away in a white pickup truck, setting off a police chase.

Despite Barry’s attempts to evade capture by removing his truck’s license plates, the keen eyes of a St. Louis detective at the Real-Time Crime Center spotted the vehicle before the plates were removed. This crucial observation led to Barry’s identification and arrest at his home.

The saga didn’t end with the bank heist. Barry is also suspected of breaking into Robert Hunn Jewelers in Ellisville the same night. Though a burglar alarm cut the theft short, stolen goods were found at Barry’s residence, linking him to the crime.

Thanks to the Eureka and St. Louis police departments’ collaborative efforts, Barry was swiftly apprehended. This case highlights the power of modern surveillance and the importance of inter-agency cooperation in solving crimes quickly and effectively.

Barry’s arrest is a reminder of the persistent challenge law enforcement faces with repeat offenders. However, the successful resolution of these incidents demonstrates the effectiveness of current policing strategies and technology in protecting communities.
