Bagel shop owner shot dead during vacation

NEW ORLEANS, LA – A Seattle-based bagel shop owner was tragically killed while on vacation with his husband in New Orleans. Local law enforcement has yet to apprehend any suspects in connection to the business owner’s death.

Jacob A. Carter, aged 32, was shot fatally on the morning of January 5 close to the intersection of Bourbon and Kerlerec streets, according to the New Orleans police department. Carter was the co-owner of a Tacoma bagel shop, Howdy Bagel, which he had opened with his husband and business partner, Daniel.

Howdy Bagel took to Instagram to share the news and remember Carter as an individual who consistently spread kindness and care. The post stated that Carter was an integral part of the community, making his loss deeply felt.

The couple launched Howdy Bagel after they both lost their jobs in the aftermath of the pandemic. Prior to his untimely death, Carter promoted the business’ philosophy of fostering inclusivity.

A GoFundMe page has also been created to aid the couple’s storefront during its temporary closure and to cover rent and operating costs during the time of grief.

In helping apprehend the culprits, local authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to contact Crimestoppers. Informants who contribute to the investigation may be eligible for a cash reward.
