Armored car robbery results in shootout

HOUSTON, TX – An attempted robbery of a Brinks armored truck erupted into gunfire Wednesday afternoon in southeast Houston, leaving police searching for multiple suspects. The incident unfolded on Cullen Boulevard near Reed Road, where chaos spread across two strip mall parking lots.

Around 3:30 p.m., the Brinks vehicle was at the location to replenish cash in an ATM when it was ambushed by a group of four to five armed men, according to police. The confrontation escalated quickly, resulting in an exchange of gunfire between the suspects and the Brinks truck personnel.

Following the shootout, one suspect fled in a getaway vehicle, while the others made their escape on foot. The remaining suspects allegedly carjacked a woman in the parking lot at gunpoint, commandeering her vehicle to continue their flight from the scene.

Authorities later discovered both the getaway car and the stolen vehicle abandoned a few blocks away, near a dead end. Despite the recovery of the vehicles, the suspects remain at large, prompting an ongoing investigation by local law enforcement.

Police are working diligently to piece together the sequence of events and identify the assailants. Initial reports suggested that someone might have been injured in the gunfire, but authorities have not confirmed any injuries at this time.

This incident bears similarities to a recent armored truck robbery in Sugar Land, though police currently do not believe the two cases are related. The suspects from the previous robbery have not been apprehended, adding to the urgency of resolving the current case.

The woman whose car was hijacked during the escape was unharmed, though understandably shaken by the ordeal. As investigations continue, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift justice.
