The suspect, identified as Diogenes Archangel Ortiz, stormed the hospital’s ICU around 10:30 a.m., taking several staff members hostage. As tensions escalated, Ortiz fired his weapon, injuring a doctor, a nurse, and a custodian. The situation intensified when Ortiz held one staff member at gunpoint and restrained another with zip ties.
Police officers quickly arrived on the scene, attempting to negotiate with Ortiz, who ordered them to keep their distance.
