SELDEN, NY – A quiet suburb was rocked by violence on Monday night when a 15-year-old boy allegedly attacked his family, leaving his grandmother dead and his mother seriously injured. The Suffolk County Police Department received two emergency calls around 9:50 p.m. from the family’s residence on Old Town Road. The first call came from the teenager’s 36-year-old mother, who reported that her son had stabbed her and her 56-year-old mother.
The mother, despite her injuries, managed to leave the house and flag down a passing driver, who helped her contact authorities. When police arrived, they discovered the grandmother’s body inside, with multiple stab wounds to her chest, stomach, and leg. The mother, who had been stabbed in the arm, neck, and face, reportedly survived by feigning death, though she lost vision in her left eye.
As the investigation unfolded, the suspect was apprehended by K-9 officers on Dare Road, not far from the crime scene. Prosecutors reported that the teenager was found covered in blood and has been charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. Two knives believed to be used in the attack were also recovered.
The incident has left the Selden community in shock, with neighbors expressing disbelief over the tragedy. “It’s horrible, absolutely horrible,” said one resident, reflecting the sentiments of many in the area.
The motive behind the attack appears to be linked to an argument over content on the boy’s computer, according to initial reports. The teen’s aunt, who lost her mother in the attack, was present at his arraignment.
