7-year-old child attacked by mountain lion

A shocking mountain lion attack occurred just forty miles south of San Francisco, resulting in a young child being taken to a local trauma center in an uncertain condition.

The incident occurred around 6:50 PM on the 1000 block of Tunitas Creek Road in a rural area of San Mateo County, not too far from San Jose, California and San Francisco.

The San Mateo County Sheriffs Office released a statement confirming the attack, saying that a child was transferred to a hospital, but no further information about the child’s condition was given.

The statement went on to express sorrow for the incident that happened in the community, and sent their best wishes to the child for a full and speedy recovery.

Chad Conover, a neighbor of the family whose child was attacked, spoke to ABC News’ San Francisco station KGO. He remarked on how surprisingly calm the family was, and that mountain lions usually try to avoid people.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is carrying out an investigation on the attack and the status of the mountain lion is currently unknown.
