7-11 employee charged with manslaughter

ELIZABETH, NJ – A late-night altercation inside a 7-Eleven in Elizabeth resulted in the death of a customer and serious charges for a store employee. Authorities are investigating the incident, as it appears the individuals involved were strangers.

Taiwan Sanders Boyd, a worker at the convenience store, faced a judge after being charged with manslaughter in the death of 44-year-old Marquise Moore. The confrontation occurred on Tuesday night, and when police arrived, Moore was found unresponsive. He was later declared dead at a local hospital.

Moore’s friends gathered outside the store to mourn his passing, remembering him as a humble and peaceful man. “He was not a troublemaker,” one friend noted, struggling to understand how the situation escalated so violently.

During the court proceedings, the judge detailed the accusations, stating that Boyd allegedly struck Moore in the head multiple times, causing him to fall twice. Witnesses described the attack as both vicious and unnecessary.

Friends of Moore expressed disbelief over the incident, emphasizing that situations like these should be handled more calmly. “An employee should manage conflicts better,” a friend remarked, advocating for peaceful resolutions over violence.

Community members are offering condolences to Moore’s family, asserting that he did not deserve such a tragic end. Many recall seeing Moore frequently at the store, describing him as a positive presence in the neighborhood.

The motive behind the altercation remains unclear, and it is unknown if any words were exchanged before the incident turned physical. Boyd is scheduled for a detention hearing on October 3rd. If convicted of reckless manslaughter, he faces up to a decade in prison.
