CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot early Wednesday on the city’s West Side, according to Chicago police.
The shooting occurred about 1:01 a.m. in the 4600 block of West Jackson Boulevard in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. Authorities had released few details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting as of Wednesday morning.
Chicago Fire Department personnel found the wounded teenager, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The boy’s name had not been released. Authorities also had not disclosed where he was wounded or whether he was found inside a building, in a vehicle or outdoors.
Police did not say whether investigators believe the teenager was targeted. No information was released about a possible shooter, and no arrests were announced.
Officials also had not identified a possible motive or described the events leading to the shooting. Police did not report whether a weapon or other evidence was recovered from the scene.
Area Four detectives are investigating the killing. Further information was expected to depend on witness accounts, surveillance footage and other evidence gathered during the investigation.
