LAWRENCE TOWNSHIP, NJ – A community is in mourning after the tragic death of a 12-year-old boy who was killed when a tree fell on him in his backyard. The fatal incident occurred Monday afternoon as the boy was playing with a friend on Eldridge Avenue.
Officers from the Lawrence Township Police Department received the call at approximately 12:09 p.m., alerting them to the accident. Upon arrival, officers managed to free the boy from beneath the tree and initiated CPR efforts. Sadly, the young boy succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a hospital.
Initial investigations reveal that gusty winds caused the tree to topple over, striking the boy and inflicting fatal injuries. The tragic accident has left the Lawrence Township community in shock, and support initiatives have been set in motion to help those affected.
In response to the heartbreaking event, the Lawrence Township School District has arranged for grief counselors to be available to students and staff. Therapy dogs and members of the Mercer County Traumatic Loss Coalition will also be present to provide additional support and comfort to those in need.
